Benefit exercise in Gym

by: Nia Amira Najwa binti Azmi

There are lots of decisions to make when you first take up exercise. Are you going to exercise at home, outdoors or in the gym? Are you going to exercise alone, in a team or with a training buddy? Every type of training has its own advantages. You decide which type of exercise is best for you. However, we can tell you that exercising in a gym has a lot of advantages.

 1. A wide range of equipment

Of course, you can use an exercise bike at home, but then you only have one piece of equipment. Gyms have lots of different equipment, offering you endless options. No matter what you want to focus on, your gym will have the right equipment. It’s a lot less boring!

2. Always exercise using the best equipment

The equipment in gyms is always high-quality. More often than not, the exercise equipment is state-of-the-art. Can you say the same about your exercise bike?

3. You can always ask for help

If you are not sure how to do a certain exercise or how to use certain equipment, you can always ask for help! Our gym staff as well as your fellow gym users are more than happy to help.

4. Group classes

If exercising on your own is not your thing, or if you prefer to do something different, gyms also offer a variety of group exercise classes. Exercising as part of a group can be great fun. You can try all the different exercise classes that are available. If you would rather do something else, then you can just try a different class the following week!

5. It’s a good place to meet new people

The gym is not only a place where you come to exercise, it is also a great place to meet new people. Many people have found friendship - and some even love - at the gym!

6. Motivation

Training with other people can be an enormous motivator to help you push yourself that little bit harder! Even if you don't train together, the presence of other people in the gym can have a positive effect.

'Tokyo Ghoul' will make you question who the true monsters are.

 by: Hanis Sophia

A “ghoul” was originally an Arabic folklore creature who feasted on the flesh of the living or the dead, depending on the storey. If Kentaro Hagiwara's spine-chilling "Tokyo Ghoul" is any indicator, the corpse-munching version grew more popular in the West but not in Japan.

“Tokyo Ghoul,” based on a manga by Sui Ishida, takes place in an alternate modern-day Japan where people cohabit uncomfortably with ghouls that appear and act like their human hosts but only devour human flesh. Ghouls live in the shadows with their own kind, which they recognise by different markings such as tentacle-like organs called kagune that erupt from their backs when they are awakened to eat or fight.

After a terrifying near-death experience, Ken Kaneki (Masataka Kubota), a weak college guy, transforms into a half-ghoul. Ken tries to gain acceptance in the ghoul underworld, which is sceptical of his human side, while keeping his ghoul side concealed from his best friend Hide (Kai Ogasawara).
Meanwhile, he agonises about his dual identities, starting with his insatiable need for flesh.

This may make “Tokyo Ghoul” sound like a rip-off of Takashi Yamazaki's 2014 SF/fantasy two-parter “Parasyte,” which also featured a trapped-between-two-worlds hero, a dystopian Japan, and tentacles.
However, first-time filmmaker Hagiwara avoids the awful excess of the “Parasyte” flicks (especially the melodramatic second part), keeping the action crisp and the suspense strong.

Moreover, “Tokyo Ghoul” accurately follows the contours of the manga's plot while portraying its characters, both ghoul and human, in sympathetic shades of grey. Given the numerous images of ghouls voraciously chewing body parts as their owners scream and writhe, this understanding attitude may appear unusual, but the film portrays the ghouls' food choices as a sad fate rather than twisted fetish.

The unhappy Ken evokes a strange combination of fear and sympathy as he tries and fails to push regular food down his throat: it's as if he's spitting his humanity on the kitchen floor. He's not your typical movie ghoul, and his pain may be difficult to see.

“Tokyo Ghoul” delivers up exciting confrontations between Ken and his fellow ghouls and their human opponents for action lovers with robust constitutions. Toka Kirishima (Fumika Shimizu), a fiery-eyed high school girl who works with Ken at a ghoul cafĂ© and becomes his kick-ass martial arts coach, is one of the former.

Among the latter are the silver-haired Mado (Yo Oizumi) and the tall Amon (Nobuyuki Suzuki), two anti-ghoul cops. They chase their prey relentlessly, armed with strange weapons. Although the outcomes are seldom in question, I was shocked to find myself rooting for the ghouls rather than humanity's grim-faced defenders.

With its copious use of creepy-looking CG, “Tokyo Ghoul” clearly hopes to entice local audiences away from Hollywood effects extravaganzas, yet its core message is anything but dazzling.
“Beyond a certain frequency, need knows absolutely no limit or control,” William S. Burroughs famously said.‘Wouldn't you?' says someone in desperate need. 'You would,' I'm sure.

Why Your Dog Will Improve Your Quality Of Life

Written by Nanthini Suresh

As a furry pup lover, there is no doubt in my mind that having a dog brings many upsides to my life. I mean, how can I NOT live happily waking up to a smiley face and wagging tail? For those of you who do not yet have a furry friend, or who are planning on adding one to your family, you’ll be glad to hear that there are scientifically proven benefits that dogs bring to each of our lives! So if you’re looking for reasons to get a dog, here’s 10!

1. Dogs increase your mood dramatically!

Spending just 15-30 minutes with your dog can help you feel more calm and relaxed, reducing stress and increasing happiness. Playing with your pup increases your brain’s levels of dopamine and serotonin, both of which are neurotransmitters associated with pleasure and tranquility. So the next time you’re feeling down, grab the newest toy from your BarkBox and spend some time with your pup! That wagging tail will be sure to put a smile on your face.

2. Having a dog may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Studies show that talking to and petting your pooches are often accompanied by lower blood pressure, and that means a lowered risk for a myriad of different illnesses

3. Step aside, kitties! Dogs protect children from skin conditions and allergies

Children who grow up with dogs have a lower risk of developing eczema than those who have cats or no dogs at all. Yes, it’s true! In addition, children also develop fewer pet allergies if they grow up with a dog.

4. Having a dog improves your physical wellbeing and encourages a healthy fitness routine.

Of course! Your dog requires daily exercise, and so do you! Dog owners carry the responsibility of playing with and working their dogs, so it only makes sense that dog people tend to be more active.

5. Humans with dogs recover more quickly from illnesses.

Dog owners have a much higher rate of recovery from being sick than non-dog owners. In fact, humans with pooches who suffered from heart attacks were twice as likely to fully recover than those without!

6. Dogs make excellent service and alert animals.

Canines make excellent service companions when trained properly for people with disabilities. They can be trained to bring medication, alleviate a stressful situation for their human, and even detect an approaching epileptic seizure.

7. Children with dogs in their household miss less school.

Yes, it’s true. We all know that children absolutely adore pups, but research has shown that children from dog-owning families have better school attendance due to better overall health and less sickness from having a pup at home.

8. But wait, there’s more (for your kids)!

Having dogs has actually been shown to improve a child’s self-esteem, and makes issues that cause stress easier to handle.

9. Simply put, they are a human’s best friend.

Because of their heightened sense of smell, sight, and hearing, dogs are extremely intelligent creatures with a loyalty to their humans that is unexpectedly strong. Those with dogs will know–your pups can sense human body language, emotions, and feelings, and this paves the way for an unbreakable bond.

10.There’s never a dull or boring moment.

Have you ever found yourself sitting at home, wondering what to do today? There are so many things you can do with your dog, whether that be taking a trip to the park, training, playing, running, or just watching them chew a toy. It’s all fun, for both of you.

Those magical, euphoric feelings sweeping over you while bonding with your dog are not just in your imagination. Locking eyes with your furry friend and gazing lovingly into that adorable face triggers the release of oxytocin, the “feel good” drug into your system.

Addicting, yes, but harmful? No! This calm and happy high is 100% natural, and available to you right now at your neighborhood shelter or animal rescue.

You May Know PMS, But Did You Know There’s A Disorder That’s Even Worse?

By : Husna Hysham

Most people know about Premenstrual Syndrome or more commonly known as PMS. However, PMS branches out into a condition called Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) which is similar but worse than PMS.

PMDD symptoms can disrupt one’s daily life and the individual’s mental wellbeing. The symptoms typically start during the luteal phase (after ovulation and before period) in the menstrual cycle. PMDD usually goes away after two to three days of menstruation.

It is unknown what causes PMDD and PMS. Researchers think that it may be due to the change in hormonal levels a woman experiences during the menstrual cycle and some females are more sensitive/susceptible to the changes. Others believe that it may be caused by genetics.

We know that what you’re going through is not easy and for most people, it may be unfathomable. However, you don’t need to keep it all to yourself as there are always people out there who will listen to you. They can be your friends, family members or Befrienders.

Digital Version School Textbook

By: Megat Harris Iskandar

With the country now under emergency rule and PKP at the same time, school learning sessions are disrupted. For those who live in the KPK area, the learning aspect is done entirely online until an unspecified period. Today, the Ministry of Education Malaysia announced that the digital version of the school textbook can be downloaded for free.

This is an interesting initiative because the cost of buying a textbook is the highest when the child starts a new school session. Only we realize when accessing the application, so far only secondary school books are offered without any primary school textbooks.

Users only need to download the KPM e-Textbook Reader application developed by Perbadanan Kota Buku. The same textbooks can be accessed through the portal. https://textbook.moe.gov.my/login
